Knick-knacks is an umbrella term covering any small item found on a mantelpiece, window sill or any other horizontal surface. These can be made of china, glass, varnished wood and, albeit rarely, plastic, and you will have little idea of where they came from, why you’ve got them and how most of them came to be cracked, chipped or broken into several pieces.
The best place to display knick-knacks is in a large cardboard box stored behind the water tank in the loft.
